True Fast - A Lenten Challenge

Our mission organization, Empowering Lives International, is proposing a different kind of fast for this Lenten season - an invitation to churches, small groups, and individuals to participate in a community fast modeled after Isaiah 58. It is our hope that this fast will help people identify with the poor in our world and simultaneously loosen the chains of injustice and feed the hungry by partnering with the ministry of ELI.

In light of the fact that water-borne disease is the number one cause of death in under-resourced countries, ELI is encouraging people to give up all drinks, except tap or filtered water, for the 40 days of Lent (Feb 17th - April 3rd) and to donate the money they would have spent on other drinks. ELI will use these donations to help the needy in Africa break the cycle of poverty, gain skills, and receive training to provide for the health and needs of their families and communities.
